比喻貪心不足。《金瓶梅·第七二回》：「罷麼，你還哄我哩！你那 吃著碗裡，看著鍋裡的心兒，你說我不知道！」《紅樓夢·第一六回》：「那薛老大也是 吃著碗裡，看著鍋裡的。這一年來的光景，他為要香菱不能到手，和姨媽打了多少飢荒。」
